Cynthia Wilson,
Director
To the Student:
The orchestra is not
only a class; it is
an organization for
you to learn and
develop through your
expanding knowledge,
skill, and
appreciation of
music. You will gain
a working knowledge
of music theory and
history, while
becoming skillful,
soloistic
performers. The
orchestra class
demands technical
and artistic growth
on a daily basis,
all of you must give
110% of your energy
and concentration to
reach your fullest
potential. Playing
in an orchestra is a
team endeavor and
requires that
everyone contribute
his/her best. The
actions of one
person affect the
group as a whole and
individuals must be
personally
responsible for
everything. Overall
I expect you to be
as dedicated and
enthusiastic about
the BMMS Orchestra
as I am. Let’s have
a wonderful year!!
Expectations
1. Express musical
ideas sensitively,
beautifully, and
accurately.
2. Practice
consistently to
ensure steady
growth.
3. Enjoy learning
about and performing
music together.
Classroom
Procedures
Students must
prepare to begin
class with
instrument, pencil
and music
immediately upon
arrival in class.
There must be
silence during
tuning.
Individual questions
and concerns should
be discussed with
the instructor at
the very beginning
or end of class.
Only relevant
questions discussing
classroom activities
should be asked
during class.
Students who are
late to class
without a pass will
lose classroom
participation
points.
There is to be no
food, drinks, or
candy in the
orchestra room.
Students will be
given individual
practice copies of
their music. If
copies are lost, it
is the student’s
responsibility to
secure another
copy. I will only
make one copy of
music per person!
Original copies of
music and the large
black folders may
not go home
The Orchestra
Room
Personal instruments
may be stored in the
orchestra room
during the school
day, but are under
the same security as
school owned
instruments and the
school is not liable
if theft or damage
does occur.
Practice:
The Orchestra room
is available before
and after school for
individual or small
group practice time.
The room will be
open by 7:45 am on
Thursday mornings
for early practice
and will stay open
Wednesday and
Thursday afternoons
until 5:00 PM unless
otherwise
indicated. Please
sign up in advance
if you wish to take
advantage of these
times. Remember,
before and after
school rehearsal
time is for
rehearsing, not
socializing!
Equipment Use
If you utilize a
school owned
instrument, you are
responsible for a
usage fee of $45.
This will allow us
to put new strings
on the instrument
yearly. |
